Frontier AI Models

Flagship assistants from the labs pushing the capability frontier. These are the general purpose systems most people meet first, and the clearest window into what state of the art AI can do today.

How to read this list

Frontier models are the most capable general assistants that labs sell to the public. In October 2026 the main ones are OpenAI's GPT-6 family in ChatGPT, Anthropic's Claude Opus 5.5 and Fable 5.1, Google's Gemini 4 Argon, SpaceXSI's Grok, and Meta's Muse models in Meta AI. Each lab now sells a free tier, a main plan at about $20 a month, and power user plans from about $100 a month.

The model names change fast, so every tool page here links to the maker's own site, and our guides note the date we last checked prices. A few facts worth knowing before you choose:

  • Plans decide the model. Gemini's free tier runs Flash-Lite, while Gemini 4 Argon needs Google AI Pro or Ultra, per Google. Claude's free plan includes Sonnet, and Opus 5.5 needs a paid plan, per Claude's pricing page.
  • Context is no longer the gap it was. Every current Claude model and Gemini 4 Argon accept about a million tokens.
  • Where you work matters most. Gemini fits Google's apps, Meta AI fits WhatsApp and Instagram, and Grok fits people who follow news on X.

For a full comparison start with ChatGPT vs Claude vs Gemini vs Grok, then ChatGPT Plus vs Claude Pro vs Google AI Pro for plan prices, and Claude Fable vs Opus vs Mythos or GPT 6 Astra vs Sol vs Luna to pick a model inside one product. Chinese labs such as DeepSeek, Alibaba (Qwen) and Moonshot (Kimi) also ship strong assistants and cheap APIs, covered on their tool pages.
