Scite vs Elicit: Which AI Research Tool?
By the Intelsi editorial team at Ahzy Capital · Prices last verified Oct 28, 2026 · How we test
Both help with academic literature, but they answer different questions. Scite shows how a paper has been cited (supporting or contrasting). Elicit finds papers and pulls data out of them for literature reviews.

What each does
Scite is built around citation context: for a given paper it shows whether later work supports, contrasts or just mentions it. That's useful for checking whether a claim holds up.
Elicit is built for search and extraction: ask a research question, get relevant papers, and have it pull details such as methods and sample sizes into a table. Its higher tiers target systematic reviews.
Pricing
At our last check, Elicit had a free tier and a Plus plan billed annually. Scite offered a seven day free trial and a Basic plan billed yearly. Universities sometimes provide institutional access, so check your library first.
Verdict
Use Elicit to find and summarize papers for a literature review. Use Scite to check how a specific paper or claim has been received. Many researchers use both. If you can only pay for one, choose by task: discovery means Elicit, and verification means Scite.
