Gemini vs Microsoft Copilot: Google or Microsoft AI?

By the Intelsi editorial team at Ahzy Capital · Prices last verified Oct 28, 2026 · How we test

This is really a question about which office suite you use. Gemini is built into Google Workspace, and Copilot is built into Microsoft 365. Both have a free consumer assistant, and both charge per seat for the business versions that work inside your files.

Free versions

Gemini's free tier works with a Google account. Microsoft's Copilot app is free for consumers too. Either is fine for general questions, drafting and image creation.

Business plans

Microsoft's pricing page lists Copilot business bundles per user per month, cheaper when paid yearly. Google lists Gemini business editions per seat as well. The value depends on your suite: Copilot can work with Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams content, and Gemini with Gmail, Docs, Sheets and Meet.

Personal use

For individuals, Google's consumer plans start lower than Microsoft's business bundles. Microsoft's consumer Copilot options aren't on the business pricing page we track, so check Microsoft's site for those.

Verdict

Choose the one that matches the office apps you already pay for. Microsoft 365 shops get the most out of Copilot. Google Workspace users should start with Gemini. If you use neither, Gemini's low cost personal plan is the cheaper starting point.
